The End of the Year is Upon Us!

Can you feel it? Can you smell it? I sure can it’s my favorite time of the year. ¡El otoño! Yes, Fall. It’s my favorite time of the year. ¡Los olores me encantan! My fav is cinnamon apple. So, you might be asking yourself oye, ¿qué tiene que ver el fin de año? Planning that’s what. Planning for what? Your goals for the rest of the year and the goals for next year as well. You don’t have to wait until el año nuevo to plan for next year. Get a head start now.

Here is why the majority of New Year’s resolutions fail … we don’t actually plan for them. They are more like wishes. “I want to lose weight” “I want to buy a new car” “I want….”. Don’t get me wrong, those are all great things to work for but there is a strategy that needs to be in place. Let’s look at an effective way to plan for these goals. Let’s plan S.M.A.R.T goals.

Specific: Any goal you have needs to be specific. You can’t just say my goal is to buy a new car. Make it specific. “I want to save for a down payment for a new car.” Which leads us to the M: Measurable.

Measurable: So now you have your specific goal. “I want to save for a down payment for a new car” How are you going to measure it. In this case, for example it can be a certain amount of money. “I want to save $XXXX to go towards the down payment for a new car by ___________ date.

Attainable: Is your goal attainable. If you don’t have a job it’s not really an attainable goal to save money. Your goal would have to change. So, make sure you goal is doable.

Realistic & Timely: Is it realistic and timely? Yes, a goal of saving $XXXX for a down payment on a new care is Specific, measurable, and attainable.  Realistic and timely? Can/will you put $XX money away to meet your goal, or will it be difficult. Timely can you really save $XXXX amount in 3 months or do you need to change it to 5 months.

I hope this helps with planning your goals for the rest of the year and give you a head start in planning for next year. So, the question is what you can realistically accomplish by December or maybe it’s accomplishing a small goal that is part of a bigger goal. You can also break down big goals into smaller goals that are more manageable. Share your S.M.A.R.T goals with me on Instagram, @oyeletstalk.
